About the E-Bike-Tour West

Ruins, nuns and rivers

We start in the middle of the old town centre, surrounded by several castles. Our tour first leads along the upper bank of the Rhine, where Germany’s largest river leaves the Rheingau and enters the Rhenish Slate Mountains together with the Nahe. This is also where the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley begins.

Passing ruins that were once a castle as stately as a palace, we head up the hill through the famous old vineyards. On our way through the park forest, which was designed in the early Romantic era, we pass the famous monument – erected to commemorate the victory over France and the newly found unity from a loose confederation of independent principalities to a united nation state on German soil. The magnificent view takes your breath away, whatever the weather. On the way, we enjoy a snack and wine at a lovely picnic spot.

We cycle past orchards and vineyards on hidden paths towards the hard-working nuns. The monastery follows in the footsteps of St Hildegard von Bingen. With fascinating far-reaching views, we cycle on through mill valleys and famous old vineyards up to a particularly steep vineyard in the Rheingau, with a temperate climate and the most magnificent views in the Rheingau to the east, west and south. Once called Bischofsberg, we admire the castle of the Rheingau.

On the way back, we cycle downhill through the vineyards past old mills to one of the oldest stone houses in Germany before cycling back comfortably along the banks of the Rhine.
