About the tour

Local ordinances sometimes mentioned “Gebücke” around our villages, such as the field police law of Count Balthasar v. Nassau-Idstein, which stipulated that anyone who caused “damage to the Gebück or fences surrounding the villages” would be punished with a fine of 10 gulden.

How did the “Rheingauer Gebück” come into being? Where did it run exactly? What is left of it today? Can you still see real Gebück trees today?

Our circular tour tells you the story of the Rheingau Landwehr on the easternmost section of the Gebück in the Hinterlandswald – and takes you to the last remaining remnants of the now centuries-old Gebück trees.

In cooperation with the Rhine-Taunus Nature Park
